Deliveries, waste, staff, linen and service equipment cross a project every day. Front-of-house calm depends on those movements having enough space elsewhere.

Trace each route from the boundary

Draw clean, dirty, staff and guest movement separately. In a hotel, compare the result with the lobby’s fast and slow routes. In an office, keep deliveries outside the reception queue.

Design transfer points

Loading, holding and vertical movement need turning space and doors suited to repeated use. Coordinate opening, rating and hardware in the door schedule.

Protect the route over time

Specify exposed surfaces using the commercial finish life test. Record access, equipment and cleaning in the operational handover. Operations become invisible only when their space is treated as essential.
